
R.O.M.E.O.:
Retired Outstanding Men
Eating Out. The men meet once a month for lunch at a local
restaurant.
Dining In:
Groups of six
to eight members meet at the home of a group member to share a
meal prepared by the host or hostess and the other participants.
The group meets several times a year as agreed by participating
members.
Monthly Luncheon and Meeting: This
meeting is held on the third Wednesday of each month at a variety
of country clubs, hotels or restaurants. The meeting agenda
includes a short general membership meeting in which new members
are introduced. Lunch is served and a special guest speaker or
group provides information or entertainment. This meeting gives
newcomers opportunities to visit many private clubs, which would
otherwise be unavailable to them.
Monthly Board Meeting:
The Club's Board business meetings are held at Venice City Hall
at 9:30 a.m. on the first Wednesday of each month. Board
meetings are open to all Newcomers Club members. |
The
Monthly Beach Picnic: These
sunset picnics are held at the Main Pavilion of the North Jetty Park on Casey
Key in Nokomis. Typically, members bring their own drinks and pay a nominal fee
for the catered meal.
Dining Out:
Venice
Newcomers visit new or favorite restaurants for dinners approximately once a
month. Large tables are usually provided to facilitate conversations with other
newcomers.
Bridge:
Members can participate in a variety of small bridge groups which normally meet
once a month in the homes of the group members. Among the choices of formats is
couples bridge, ladies bridge.
Dominoes, Hand and Foot, Euchre and Poker:
These are a few examples of social/game groups that meet monthly in members'
homes.
Day
Trips:
Outings including bus
trips are scheduled several times a year.

"Newest" Newcomer Coffees:
Welcoming coffees are held by invitation for the newest club members, providing
an opportunity to meet other new club members as well as some board members and
activity leaders who will explain how to get involved in the Newcomers Club
events.
Special
Events: Typical
special events include a fall golf tournament and awards dinner, a December
Holiday Dinner Dance, and a Spring Event.
The
Monthly Sunday Mixer:
This event is usually held
in a Newcomers member's home. The Mixer provides opportunities to meet other
members in an informal setting. Each participant brings an appetizer to share,
as well as personal beverages.
The
Newcomers Singles Group:
A subset of the Newcomers
Club who provide Newcomer singles with their own get-togethers, including
lunches, dinners, game nights, and house parties.

Book
Discussion Group:
This group meets monthly at
the Venice Public Library to discuss books selected in advance by the group
members.
Morning
Coffees/Afternoon Teas:
These groups meet monthly in
group members' homes.
The Lunch
Bunch:
A local restaurant is
selected each month as the site for an informal meal and spirited conversation.
Golf:
A group meets weekly
on Fridays to play nine holes of regular golf.
Other
Activities:
The Newcomers Club encourages the formation of additional events and activities
of interest to its members.
